GEORGE CONDO
October 16 — November 18, 2017
Almine Rech Gallery, Paris
[Press Release]

Almine Rech Gallery Paris is pleased to announce George Condo’s first solo exhibition with the gallery. The exhibition will consist of a dialogue between paintings from the 1980s and the present day, along with recent drawings and sculptures.

20170730171108

For nearly three decades, George Condo has occupied a prominent position in the art world. Condo’s art can be viewed as a multifaceted experience that brings together art historical references ranging from European classicism to American contemporary culture, often combining elements of each to achieve a unique vision informed by numerous sources. Applying the methods and techniques of his predecessors, Condo prolifically reinvigorates art historical influences by addressing subjects that have not previously been elaborated. George Condo’s impact on subsequent generations has ushered in possibilities for artists to apply the history of painting in innovative ways.

New York-based George Condo was born in Concord, New Hampshire, in 1957. He studied Art History and Music Theory at the University of Massachusetts in Lowell. Condo’s work was recently featured in a large-scale exhibition, ‘Confrontation’, at the Berggruen Museum, Berlin (2016-2017). More recently, The Phillips Collection, Washington D.C. opened a major survey of drawings and “drawing paintings” entitled ‘The Way I Think’ (March 11–June 25, 2017). The exhibition will travel to the Louisiana Museum of Modern Art, Humlebaek, in 2018.
