Ink Studio, an enterprise of Beijing Liangyou Huayi Co. Ltd., is looking for an energetic and well-organized person to play an integral role in the maintenance and development of the activities of the gallery. The role requires working with gallery Artists, Directors, and other team members in order to direct the daily operations of the gallery as well as such diverse activities as exhibition planning, administration, etc. The candidate will be expected to:

  • Manage and co-ordinate gallery and project operations in close coordination with the director
  • Plan and maintain systems and procedures for operating efficiently
  • Manage staff for optimum performance
  • Ensure the smooth day-to-day running of the gallery
  • Delegate work duties to staff to attain objectives
  • Monitor and assist staff with work progress

Detailed Description 



  • Exhibitions and art fairs
  1. Plan and organize exhibitions and shows
  2. Oversee, together with the Exhibition Manager, the installation and dismantling of exhibitions at the gallery
  3. Oversee that the work lists for exhibitions, art fairs etc. are consistent in both English and Chinese
  4. Plan and organize art fair participations and coordinate the application process
  5. Development of marketing material such as press releases etc. (together with the Media Coordinator)

  2. Develop and update the gallery website together with the Exhibition Manager and the Media Coordinator
  • Logistic
  1. Budgeting of exhibitions
  2. Keep expense record
  3. Updating of artwork inventory
  • Sales
  1. Promote and sell artists’ work through both exhibitions and personal contacts
  2. Keep the sales pipeline updated together with the Gallery directors
  3. Ensure the correct billing and shipping of sold artworks
  4. Make sure that each artwork has a Certificate of Authenticity to be delivered to the client
  5. Maintain ongoing promotion and advertising of the gallery
  6. Promote exhibitions and works by individual artists
  7. Keep front of house staff briefed on technical and artistic matters relating to programming
  • Requirements

Knowledge of Chinese contemporary and international contemporary art

  10. Good command of spoken and written English and Chinese, preferably English native speaker.
  11. With service awareness, well featured, speaking standard mandarin, male or female.
  12. Above Bachelor degree, working experience in a related field required.

The candidate should have an in-depth knowledge of contemporary art and must be well informed on recent developments in contemporary art both in China and abroad. It is crucial that the candidate assumes responsibility for a multitude of activities in a fast-paced environment with a constant eye on the big picture, while prioritizing responsibilities and carrying them out independently. Job Title: Media Coordinator

Ink Studio, a program of Beijing Liangyou Huayi, is an experimental art space and gallery in Beijing’s Caochangdi art district devoted to exhibiting and promoting the most important contemporary ink artists in China to international collectors, curators, critics and institutions. The gallery is looking for an energetic and well-organized person to lead the development and implementation of the gallery’s digital media, social media and traditional media programs. The role requires working with gallery Artists, Directors, and the Exhibition Manager to organize and edit the gallery’s extensive written, image, video and audio content, redesign and update the gallery’s website to make this content widely accessible and searchable online, maximize the gallery’s social media presence via Facebook, Weibo, WeChat and other online platforms, and maintain relations with traditional media outlets as needed.

Detailed Description

  • Editorial
  1. Ink Studio takes a media-intensive approach to working with artists, collectors and institutions and generates extensive textual, image, audio and video content. The Media Coordinator will act as the primary manager of this content editing it into appropriate forms for different channels including the gallery’s website, social media, exhibition guides, and traditional press outlets.
  2. Content will include art critical texts; artwork, installation, time-lapsed and working studio images, artists interviews (both audio and video), and gallery walks (both audio and video).
  3. Gallery source content will be in both English and Chinese. With the assistance of C-E and E-C translators and Chinese language editors, insure that all important gallery media content is available in both Chinese and English. This may include overseeing the translation of texts, writing bilingual image captions, writing and editing video subtitles, producing video and audio voice-overs, etc.
  • Digital Media Production
  1. Art direct the production of digital image, video and audio material for the gallery including: video and audio documentation of artist interviews and gallery walks, video documentation of artistic performances and studio visits, time-lapsed photo documentation of artistic performance and process, and photo and video documentation of exhibition installations.
  2. When possible, record raw image, audio and video content using in-house equipment and staff.
  3. When necessary, manage vendor relations with third-party service providers such as photographers, videographers, website designers, social media campaign managers, etc.
  • Website
  1. The center of Ink Studio’s media strategy is its website. In its final form, the website should be the most authoritative international online reference for each of the gallery’s artists.
  2. With the support of website design and engineering company, redesign, re-launch and continuously update the gallery website to make the extensive art critical and media content of the gallery fully accessible and searchable online.
  3. Website should include an edited micro-blog on each gallery artist that includes edited and translated updates and news gathered from the artist, the gallery, the press, and social media.
  • Social Media
  1. Develop a social media program that effectively targets the gallery’s collectors, critics, curators, and institutions through channels such as Twitter, Instagram, Weibo, Weixin, Facebook, Linked In, etc.
  2. Develop and implement social media campaigns to promote awareness of exhibitions, publications, performances and other significant artist- or gallery-related events and drive traffic to the gallery website.
  • Traditional Media Coordination
  1. Maintain and develop the gallery’s press contacts and coordinate with both the International and Chinese media (with language assistance). Assemble and circulate press materials, including press releases, press kits and images.
  2. Coordinate and fulfill press related reproduction requests. Track press coverage, archive and format press clippings of various media
 (print, video, and online).

Requirements

  • Honest and responsible, proactive at work, able to work collaboratively in groups.
  • Good time management; able to complete tasks on time and under deadline.
  • Proficient with Mac, MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint, the Adobe Creative Suite as well as film editing/production software such as PT/LOGIC, Final cut Pro/Media Composer, dDavinci resolve.
  • Native command of spoken and written English; editorial experience and or strong writing skills.
  • Spoken Mandarin Chinese sufficient to work in a team environment..
  • Bachelor’s degree, working experience in a related field required.
