OCAT Shenzhen is pleased to announce the appointment of Venus Lau as its new artistic director, effective from September 2015. Ms. Lau will also be the director of OCAT Shenzhen’s curatorial department, continuing our goals of further strenghening our team and cementing our impact in the Pearl River Delta region and the whole of China, while steering OCAT Shenzhen and its museum group forward in ever greater strides.
About Venus Lau
Venus Lau is a curator and writer based in Beijing and Hong Kong. After working as an art writer and project curator, she is actively pursuing multidisciplinary experiments with emerging forms of cultural production in China, while fostering greater discourse between Chinese art and cultural developments in other countries. She won the CCAA (Chinese Contemporary Art Award for Critics) Jury’s Pick with her proposal to rethink the strategies of institutional critique in a Chinese context, while exploring the links between ontology and objecthood in art. She has been Chair of the Society for Experimental Cultural Production, a non-profit organization focusing on artistic and curatorial innovation. Venus Lau is currently consulting curator at the Ullens Center for Contemporary Art, Beijing.
