Red Gate Young Artists Residency 2015

Chinese artists studying or living outside of Beijing are invited to submit entries for a one-month residency with Red Gate in Beijing.

We are offering one studio/loft for May 2015.
Submissions deadline is 20th of April 2015.

Red Gate Residency is an international artist-in-residence program based in Bejing and the first artist residency in China. We host 50-70 international artists per year in our 6 studios in Feijiacun and 3 downtown apartments in the downtown neighborhood of Tuanjiehu.

The Residency
Red Gate provides accommodation in studio/lofts for creative and professional development in locations: the neighborhood of Feijiacun, a thriving artists village in the north of Beijing.
Red Gate will provide accommodation for participants. Red Gate assists all participants to connect with the art scene, meet local Chinese artists and to source art materials. We provide the necessary support and encouragement to help you get the most out of your stay here. We help get you settled, show you around and tell you where and when the latest openings are. All residents are invited to Red Gate Gallery events.
Artists will be responsible for all other costs including food, transport, travel expenses, insurance and art materials. They will be required to pay a refundable bond  of 1000 yuan to cover any costs associated with damage or extraordinary cleaning.

Facilities
Bei Gao Studio/Loft Spaces
Red Gate’s six studio/lofts are set in Feijiacun Village situated on the north side of Beijing. The site has been converted into a series of studios and apartments. Nearby local galleries include Imagine Gallery and Red Brick Museum. It is a congenial and fun environment where Chinese and foreign artists are living and working together. The community is enlivened by many informal activities and frequented by many visitors.

Each studio/loft is self-contained complete with internet, wifi, hot water, fridge, gas stove, bottled water, microwave, washing machine, heating and air conditioning and adequate kitchen gear, furnishings and linen. Utilities and basic weekly cleaning are included. Each artist is given a bicycle to explore the neighboring small villages and more deeply immerse themselves in the local culture. Transportation is available by bike, bus and taxi. *Please note that this location is removed from the urban environment and will provide a more remote atmosphere and lifestyle. For taxi travel into the city please plan 30-40 minutes.

Red Gate Young Artists Flash Residency Award 2015 Application Form

Submission Criteria
The Red Gate Residency awards are open to Chinese artists currently studying or working in various fields such as visual art, installation, multimedia, performance, literature, music, film-making and curating.

Your submission should show how a residency at Red Gate Residency working in Beijing and among other international artists would inform your work.
