Marina Abramopug Performance

Recently, as the public waited in line for the performance artist Marina Abramovic’s exthibition “512 Hours” at London’s Serpentine gallery, another performance happened to have been taking place just outside. “Marina Abramopug: The Artist is Present” features a nine-and-a-half-year-old pug dressed in red, with her head decked out in an Abramo-wig. The public is invited to sit and gaze at her for an unlimited time.

Marina Abramopug’s “assistant”, Hannah Ballou, believed that Abramopug really “needed to be present with her public.” Being “in tune with nature” also made the park outside the Serpentine Gallery an ideal choice. Through all this, some members of the public, staring at the pug’s wrinkly face and soap-dish eyes, were reportedly moved to tears. Some, however, questioned if this constituted animal abuse. Ballou argued that performance art is different from theater, and that “Marina Abramopug knows that there is risk involved with performance art.”
