Unlived by What is Seen

After more than a year of curatorial planning, the exhibition “Unlived by What is Seen” opened at the same time at three of the most important galleries in Beijing—Galleria Continua, PACE Beijing, and Tang Contemporary. The exhibition, jointly curated by the artists Sun Yuan and Peng Yu along with the curator Cui Cancan, was first initiated in 2013. After in-depth discussions with numerous artists, 34 artists (including two “art institutions” and three art collectives) were in the end chosen to take part in the exhibition. The videos, diagrams, everyday objects, and such like presented in the exhibition are not “works” in the ordinary sense of the work; rather, they strive to convey individual artists’ actions and experiences within society and life. Alongside the exhibition, there will be four public discussions and lectures after the opening, with an exhibition catalog and related archival documentation to be published in May 2015.
