COLLABORATION_project is an artist initiative that collaborates internationally with other groups of artists. The collaborative element is two-fold: one, between the travelling artists which work together in addition to their individual practice; and two, in exchange and interaction with the artist groups that are hosting them in the different cities. Each exhibition is developed specifically for each site. The artists produce new works and refer to the particular context of each location. As an experimental collective artistic production this way of working explores also the possibilities and limitations of individual vs. collaborative art practice.

So far five projects took place throughout Europe: e.g. COLLABORATION_2 took place in Bristol (UK) and was focused on musically background. COLLABORATION_4 took place in an old trainstation building in East Slovakia and was presented later in the main capital Bratislava. In Iceland COLLABORATION_5 was developed with the Icelandic artists for two venues at the same time, one in Akureyri, the country’s second biggest city, the other one on the countryside in the small village Hjalteyri. COLLABORATION_7 started this summer in Mostar (Bosnia-Herzegowina) with a studyperiod and will be realized on site next spring. COLLABORATION_6 will take place in Shanghai as a collaborative research project entitled:

all ready made in China
It is both, title and concept of a process or show, taking place at Fei Contemporary Art Center (FCAC) Shanghai on December 14th 2013.

During their two-weeks stay in Shanghai the artists will examine the idea of the readymade, the found object or objet trouvé. Going back to early 20th century and Marcel Duchamp who first introduced the usage of everyday objects in the art context, the definition of the term “ready-made” can be
multifaceted today: Assisted readymade, printed readymade, semi-readymade, imitated readymade, etc.

Collaboration_6 will explore Shanghai in order to find images, objects, thoughts and materials that will be put together, analysed and transformed into a collaborative installation. Focussing on the notion of production, original & copy, before & after, etc. the eight artists will investigate in the city on the topic of use, reuse, re-reuse and of copy-right, market, production, reproduction, and the influence of digitally converted systems.

Everything will be developed and found at site. The city becomes a pool for artistic ideas and materials, which will be displayed in the exhibition space. The outcome is open.

Along their stay the artists will give lectures and a workshop:

Lectures at Shanghai University, Shanghai, Dec. 4th – 6th, 9 – 11 am
Lecture at East China Normal University, Shanghai, Dec. 9th, 5 – 7 pm
Workshop at East China Normal University, Shanghai, Dec. 11th, 3 – 6 pm
