Almine Rech Gallery
Almine Rech Gallery is pleased to present the third exhibition of Irish artist Genieve Figgis with the gallery and her first presentation in Paris.
The exhibition will be composed of new paintings, sharing a similar dramatic bent as some Irish-English literature subjects from Edgar Allan Poe to Oscar Wilde, as well as acknowledged Old Masters such as Fragonard. Figgis scenes depicting bourgeois homes, traditional portraits, or landscapes are often haunted by spectral figures and leering creatures with canes and top hats. A sense of the charmingly macabre emerges from Figgis’ combination of an apparent pictorial banality with dreamlike qualities.
Recent solo exhibitions include ‘What we do in the shadows’, Almine Rech Gallery, Brussels (2017) and The Met Opera, New York, US (2016). In 2018, she will be part of the next ‘Almanach’ at the Consortium, Dijon, France.
