Handwritten·State —— Zhou Changjiang Solo Exihibition

Phoenix Art Center Shanghai is delighted to present an exhibition of “Handwritten·State-Zhou Changjiang Solo Exhibition” on 7th July 2013.

Zhou Changjiang as the most important representative of Chinese abstract art, his series of creative artwork “complementary” which was widely known has been practiced for three decades so far. The concept of “complementary” series was proposed from a simple ideal, that is, after artist in the study of Western modernism, expect the transformation of traditional aesthetic values in modern society, and establish a modern image with Oriental heritage. In this exhibition, Phoenix Art Center Shanghai will display the most recent situation of Zhou Changjiang’s artwork. Curator will briefly lead us to the territory of “Handwritten·State”. Chinese handwritten as a traditional culture should be the most close to the “abstract” in the spirit of kernel and visual interest. As a major advance in the creative process of Zhou Changjiang’s persistence series of “complementary”, he concentrates on studies and repeatedly pondering between the feeling, charm, skill and concept of “Handwritten”. In the spirit field of Zhou Changjiang, people appreciate the deep and serene Zen that stay away from the secular life but plenty of his heart. This is a state of life through his handwritten traces to pass out.

ZHOU Changjiang, Born in April 1950, Shanghai. Graduated from Arts Department (Oil Painting) of Shanghai Theater Academy, Shanghai.Professor and Dean of Art School of East China Normal University; Level 1 Artists of Shanghai Oil Painting & Sculpture Institute; Vice-Chairman of the Shanghai Artists Association; Researcher of China National Academy of Painting.
