While watching the paintings of Fu Jingyan, we are temporarily free of the noise of cyberimages. His paintings are somehow cold, not the coldness of Classicism which doesn’t concern about the current time, but the coldness of common and permanent questions, to which he has always been contriving to respond with a calm mind. His calmness doesn’t result rigid or monotone works. On the contrary, refusing any stereotype of painting and insisting his own interest of image at the same time, makes his art flexible. Due to the flexibility, his paintings are not susceptible to be institutionnalised, as well to be systematised. What should not be neglected, one’s methodology of art is also relevant to the situation of his life, especially when he lives and works in Shenyang, a somehow declined city.
