“Kimo Kawa Cancer Baby”: Lu Yang Solo Exhibition

Ren Space proudly presents “Kimo Kawa Cancer Babys” by the artist Lu Yang. It is a first solo project by Lu Yang with Ren Space, in which she attempts to bring the negative notion of Cancer cell into a “Kimo Kawa” object of love and/or pain and hopes to open a dialogue that brings awareness to the acceptance and tolerance of living with cancer cells.

Using various medium, such as animation, installation, jewelry, and 3D printing technology, Lu Yang has metamorphosed cancer cells into animated characters in dazzling colors. The beguiling beauty of the character, typical of Lu Yang’s artistic approach, reveals much of irony and cruelty of the realistic world that must be negotiated.

LuYang has been working intensely with rigorous and advanced “biological” studies. From her early work “Wrathful King Kong Core” to the recent work “Uterusman,” Lu Yang has painstakingly created much “extreme values” and has used the persuasive visual language to put forth her artistic view. Based on her research into personal identity, psychological, physical, material and media based sources in biology, neuroscience, and Buddhism, her work represents a new generation of artistic approach that embraces all facets of the modern life, science and technology. Through her work, sometimes lovely and sometimes elegant visual image provokes unsettling message that stems from the scientific and rational search, yet propels one into surreal and fantastic realm. The theoretical abuse era, Lu Yang’s works are constantly bring us vitality.The topic of her research is finally point to life noumenon and becomes more diversified.
Lu Yang was born in Shanghai, and graduated from China Academy of Art. Her multimedia artworks have brought many accolades amongst her peers and art circles.Her work continues to evolve and challenge us to re-think, re-define, and re-position ourselves through her unconventional synthesis of visual media.

A special event will be hold during the opening, and a portion of the proceed on the Opening Night will go to benefit Cancer research center for the cancer cell research.
