Leo Gallery is delighted to present a duo exhibition by Li Yiwen & Tang Jie at ART021 2016. Li Yiwen and Tang Jie are two representative young artists in painting and installation art. Coming from different backgrounds, these two artists pay attention on the same kind of concepts. From “structure”, “dynamic state” and “machine” to “component”, all these physical-related ideas and objects appear in Li and Tang’s work, reveal the same visual memories of the mechanical age, in the meantime, representing the young generation’s aspiration towards the pure and conceptual artistic language.

Apart from the mature artistic language and the distinguished characters, Li Yiwen attempts to make breakthrough in his creation. With the unique concept and the remarkable style, Tang Jie’s installation art has already gained wide attentions in several local art fairs. Through this duo exhibition, Leo Gallery wants to introduce outstanding young artists to Shanghai collectors and audiences, promote art via creative interactions and support cutting-edge young creators.

About Li Yiwen

Li Yiwen(b.1982, Luoyang, China) graduated from the Department of Mural Painting, Central Academy of Fine Arts (CAFA), with a Bachelor’s degree in 2006 and a Master’s degree in 2011. Currently, he works and lives in Beijing, China. In 2013, he had his solo exhibition entitled Twinkling at Times Art Museum in Beijing, China. Also, his solo exhibition LI YIWEN was showcased at Yang Gallery in Beijing, China in 2014, FEIZI Gallery in Brussel, Belgium in 2015 and Leo Gallery in Hong Kong in 2016.

Compared with the narration and metaphor in previous creation, Li Yiwen has gradually switched his focus on certain details, such as the brush stroke, color and texture, and digs into the personal emotion and imagination that congealing with a subject or a word. The artist would not plan his future creation in advance. As time goes by, the possibility of an artwork may eventually emerge from the progress of practice.

About Tang Jie

Tang Jie (b.1989, Yueyang, China) is currently a lecturer in Luxun Academy of Fine Arts, working and living in Dalian, China. Tang Jie’s installation art is an exploration of objects. The objectivities of natural materials inspire the artist. Object itself is a storyteller which possesses its own power. Tang Jie’s art creation presents the narration of objects. Going back to the simplest state, the artist experiences the originality of human being, life and universe, explores the discipline of everything and ultimately locates the pure land in his life.
