Lu Pingyuan: Waiting for an Artist Description

Press Release

Waiting for An Artist touches upon demands of the art system and offers a perspective to understand “demands”. The art system constantly asks artists to come up with some sort of “value” that can easily be disseminated. Artists’ “bodies” are often simplified as a kind of “ready-made”. Then, as a “ready-made”, what options do we have to keep ourselves “valuable”? The audience will perceive a sense of subtlety and delicacy from the installation by Lu Pingyuan.

Lu’s art practice covers a variety of topics, ranging from sensory aspects of the “object” to the history of art per se. Since last year he started to focus his attention more on the context of art itself. Waiting for An Artist is a result of such an effort. By establishing a cycle structure, he endeavors to maintain “humidity”, and such “humidity” is “legitimately” displayed within such a structure. Comprising installation, ready-mades and performance, the work deliberately preserves the imagination imposed on creators by the art system through repetitive and endless action.

Waiting for an Artist is presented as the fifth and last segment of Alternatives to Ritual.
