Papay Gyro Nights Art Festival 2014, Hong Kong

Papay Gyro Nights Art Festival 2014, Hong Kong, one of the city’s most impactful events on media and contemporary art, is making its third annual return next month. Glittering the local art scene from 4th to 18th April, the two-week inspiring programme will feature talks, exhibitions and screenings delivered by more than 10 internationally renowned artists, fostering significant media art and cultural exchange between Hong Kong and the world.

Originated in a remote Scottish island named Papa Westray, Papay Gyro Nights is an annual celebration that reflects on the folktale, heritage, ritual and ancient tradition, interpreted by new media art. Riding along this theme, this year’s Hong Kong edition will comprise a diverse range of activities, including curators talks, video art exhibitions, experimental film screenings, and live performances, venturing out from its anchor site, Cattle Depot Artist Village, to City University of Hong Kong, Sham Shui Po, Cheung Chau and different parts of the territory.

A major highlight of this year’s programme is undoubtedly the performance by Ryo Ikeshiro. Ryo is an up-and-coming UK-based Japanese artist who has been under considerable spotlight with his 20 plus thumbs-up exhibitions and performances in major cities, which defined the global media arena with new dimensions. On this occasion, Ryo will conduct a lecture, a workshop as well as an audiovisual performance, aiming to impress the audience with “live audiovisualisation”, an area where his expertise lies.

Other features of the Festival include an outdoor screening of “Incoherent Cinema” on a secret rooftop, a networking Video Art Party participated by major industry players, as well as an exciting Opening Night on 4th April at Videotage, Cattle Depot with artist dialogue, live performance and exotic Nordic drinks!

Papay Gryo Nights Art Festival 2014, Hong Kong is co-organized by Videotage, a Hong Kong-based non-profit organization dedicated to promoting video and media art, and Papay Gyro Nights Art Festival Ltd (Scotland).
