From Alone Whisper to today’s Respiration,

Wu Shunan can always abstract his personal image, where metonymy and metaphor are interwined,

from specific and limited materials, surpassing life’s logic,

yet stuck in such spiritual logic as a chaotic abyss.

These photos are not a game of naming, but the alternation of cognition.

Fresh flowers and trees can easily be seen nowadays,

but Wu Shunan shuts his eyes to them;

instead, he has presented lifeless plastic flowers and withered flowers in his Respiration series.

I believe, for him, fresh memories and senses are still there, or they might even be abundant,

but just for the presence of senses and memories, there come these photos.
