The exhibition explores the abstraction in the field of visual art in eastern context. ‘The Atonal River’ evokes a clue about the nature of abstract art between contemporary painting, sculpture, installation, conceptual photography and traditional folk art; Meanwhile, the exhibition presents a revival of the traditional crafts spirit in work by a new generation of artists. It is the first time AIKE showcases contemporary art together with traditional eastern folk art.

Abstract art is a purely spiritual creation of aesthetics and intellect which reflects a metaphysical world through colours, lines, shapes and spaces. The abstract art defined by Modernism has become recognized by the world ever since the beginning of the 20th century. However, in the early human civilization, a few ethnic groups and tribal culture, there has been a practice of abstraction of visual forms. The exhibition explores an imaginary world, in which we will be inspired by the intertwining of the past and future. It is also an insight into this age. As we hike in the mountain and cross the lake, we are approaching the mystery of infinity.
