The Knowing Nothing of the Thing An Te Liu – Solo exhibition- Saturday 6 – 9pm

October 25rd – November 30, 2014

ART LABOR Gallery is very pleased to present a solo exhibition of Canadian artist An Te Liu’s “The Knowing Nothing of the Thing”, 25 pieces of elegant and thought provoking sculptural works cast and shaped in ceramic, bronze, hydrostone and concrete. Representing Canada for the Shanghai International Arts Festival, this is the first time the Taiwanese born artist’s works have ever been shown in Asia.

He is currently participating as one of a very select group of Canada’s top artists as part of the Ottawa Biennial at the National Gallery of Canada, which added several of his works to their permanent collection. He has shown in a wide range of the world’s top art institutions including the The Venice Biennale, The Kunsthalle in Vienna, Austria, and San Francisco MOMA to name but a few.
An Te Liu is also professor of art and architecture at University of Toronto’s school of architecture.

An Te Liu’s sculptural works bring to mind a host of the greatest sculptors and conceptual artists and architects, evoking the early modernist charms from Brancusi to Moore and finding the provocative in the banal by utilizing forms cast from found pieces of styrofoam packaging that bring to mind brutalism and other architectural influences.

ART LABOR gallery would like to thank the Canadian Consulate in Shanghai for their kind support of this exhibition.

Please join us for an opening vernissage with the artist Saturday October 25th, 2014, from 6 – 9pm. This reception is open to the general public and refreshments will be served.
