Between Art Lab (Shanghai) is honored to announce the opening of The Mustangs in Social Modulator on Saturday, April 23, 2016. The Mustangs in Social Modulator ( TMISM)is an industrial visual and audio-visual project started by Xu Cheng and Huang Lei, two shanghai-based sound artists. Curated by Zhang Jiayuan, this exhibition will last to May 22, 2016. The opening will be held from 16:00 to 20:00 on April 23 at Between Art Lab at No. 2361, North bund Art Zone, Yangshupu Road, Shanghai.
The title of the project is actually a loose translation of “The Mustangs in Social Modulator” (TMISM in short), which some times refers to TMISM itself.

In the exhibition about information transmission , the two artists transform ready-made articles and images in the hope of demonstrating how information is produced, transmitted and received in a constructed space. “Stero”, “reality” and “modulated”, three key words of the event, imply that lots of changes in the current world have taken place in the directional aspects of communication and time in the diversified nodal points, and information may be taken as equal to an event itself. It also proves that the path can add more features to the information, the standpoints of a nodal point can rework the information, and the weight of time, as transmission efficiency standard, is losing its importance and being put into oblivion. As a matter of fact, we all live in a TMISM context only that there is no appeasing and nourishing elements one can otherwise find in a real life situation and everything is laid bare under in the program.

Introduction to the artists:

The Mustangs in Social Modulator (TMISM in short) , an industrial visual and audio-visual project started by Xu Cheng and Huang Lei, two shanghai-based sound artists, was founded in Shanghai in 2011. Based on antique electronic hardware, TMISM, inspired by British industrial noise music vanguards like THROBBING GRISTEL, CABARET VOLTAIRE, CHRIS &COSEY, RICHARD H. KIRK, is devoted to realizing their own audio-visual experience that can mix experiments, fantasy, atmosphere and noises.
