Tsang Kin-Wah: Nothing

Tsang Kin-Wah: Nothing
A new commission following Hong Kong’s participation in the 56th Venice Biennale

Life’s but a walking shadow, a poor player
That struts and frets his hour upon the stage
And then is heard no more: it is a tale
Told by an idiot, full of sound and fury,
Signifying nothing.
— William Shakespeare, Macbeth

The inaugural exhibition at the M+ Pavilion, Tsang Kin-Wah: Nothing, is an immersive experience that takes inspiration from William Shakespeare’s Macbeth and explores the essence of life and our inability to escape fate.

Hong Kong artist Tsang Kin-Wah’s site-specific installation draws on philosophy, literature, religion, and popular culture and employs text, sound, and projection to expand on his 2015 solo presentation The Infinite Nothing at the 56th Venice Biennale. Nothing suggests that life is an arduous journey that requires a constant examination of existence.

A series of programmes—including talks, a teachers’ private view, and guided tours for the public, schools, and visitors with specific needs—accompany the exhibition.

In the run up to the opening of the M+ building in 2019, the M+ Pavilion functions as a temporary home for M+ exhibitions and events.
