WAN YANG
“Metal-”
AIKE DELLARCO
Shanghai
[Press Release]

Press Release]
AIKE DELLARCO is glad to announce the opening of Wan Yang’s solo exhibition in the gallery “Metal-” on December 18, 2016. The exhibition will show his man-machine investigation of metallic texture on both canvas and paper.

The title “metal-” refers to the virtual metallic texture he created, adding a sense of softness and fluidity into the sharp and solid nature of real metal. He tries to explore the combination and paradox of human and mechanic system by using various tools, including Wacom handheld boards, computer software, CNC digital carver, etc. Through depicting cold computer instructions with abundant manual labor, the artist applies arithmetical and engineering methodology in the art process. Meanwhile, he maintains his aesthetic perspective between the conversion of pixels and vectors.

Wan Yang (1983) was born in Hunan, China. He graduated from Sichuan Fine Arts Institute in 2005, and currently lives and works in Shanghai. His solo exhibition includes “Derivative”, Connoiseur Art Gallery and Connoisseur Contemporary, Hong Kong, China, 2008. His group shows include “To Be Confirmed”, Jewelvary Art & Boutique, Shanghai, China, 2015; “Ministry of Truth II: The Factitious and Its Realm”, Boers-Li Gallery, Beijing, China, 2014; “Sichuan Hot! New Paintings from Chongqing City, China”, Queensland College of Art, Griffith University, Brisbane, Australia; Scope Basel, Basel, Switzerland; Scope Miami, Miami, USA, 2009; “The 3rd Guiyang Biennale Exhibition”, Guiyang Art Museum, Guizhou, China, 2007; “Archaeology of the Future”, The 2nd Triennial of Chinese Art, Nanjing Museum, Nanjing, China, 2005.
