YOU, I, AMONG US
[Press Release]

You, I, Among us
Lin Jingjing
Wang Guofeng
Zhou Wendou
Zhao Jinhe

The four artists in this exhibition work on a variety of mediums ranging from photography, painting, and installation. Their work raises questions about issues that are prominent in contemporary China as well as the world, such as identity, politics, environmental issues, extreme consumerism, public and private interactions in a society that we all live in.

Public Memory by Lin Jingjing, on view in the main room, is about questioning time and history. The paradoxical idea between “existence and absence” is also the theme of Public Memory. It discusses the idea of one “being there” and “not being there” and the meaning of the world in terms of the one. The purpose of this work is not to explain or simply offering an answer, but to raise a question artistically.

The “I” in here could be anyone, or to put it this way: Anyone could be me. Confusion and muti-standard is becoming the most identifiable characteristic of our generation. In a world that moral standards are continuously being challenged, how are we going to understand life, history, and value, and how are we going to withstand disaster, power, and numbness.
