High Level Shuffles in the Official Art World in China

Fan Di’an, the former director of the National Museum of China (NAMOC), has recently been selected to take on the position of the principal of the Central Academy of Fine Arts (CAFA), replacing Pan Gongkai. At the same time, vice-principals Dong Changxia and Su Xinping will replace Xu Bing and Tan Ping.

Fan Di’an, born in 1955, graduated in art history at CAFA. He had previously held the position of the vice-principal of CAFA, and in 2005 attained the position of the director of the National Museum of China. NAMOC will now be headed by Wu Weishan, the deputy chair of the China Artists Association and the director of the China Academy of Sculpture.

When asked, Xu Bing has said that the Ministry of Education respected his wishes to resign and to return to the research and creation of art (link in Chinese).
