Gallery Yang

In 2010 Gallery Yang was founded in 798 Art District, Beijing. It dedicates itself to promoting independent young Chinese artists, the ideas generated by critical thinking, and the searching for more possibilities of contemporary art.

Until now Gallery Yang holds averagely 5 solo exhibitions of young artists per year. Many exhibitions, such as My Labor by Yan Bing, I Have Issues by Li Binyuan, A Short History of Everything: Grandma’s House and Bosch’s Garden by Dong Yuan, Thank God by Li Wei, L in K by Lin Ke and You Miss the Truth by Zhang Yue, evoked positive reactions and various discussions within the artistic field as well as the general public. In 2010 Gallery Yang and the curator Bao Dong initiated the group exhibition series named Painting Lesson, aiming to reflect and organize ideas on easel painting from multiple angles. In the course of the four years until 2014, 34 artists had joined this project. We had been invited to many artistic events in 2014: the Armory Show, Art Basel Hong Kong, Art 14 London, etc. Amongst all the participating projects, My Tools by Yan Bing and Fit by Liang Shuo were promoted in the form of independent documentary.

From the beginning of the gallery, we have cooperated with many curators so as to practice different curatorial and conceptual ideas. We will keep our spirit of bravery and curiosity in our future dedicated to contemporary art.
