A Performance Festival After Sunset

Juē, A Performance Festival After Sunset

Juē,pronounced in the first tone in Chinese Pinyin, has three definitions: 1) Push something forward, e.g. pouting, sticking up tails or raising up butts 2)Snap something, e.g. the branch snapped 3) Stubborn, synonymous with obstinate. Now let`s repeat it again: Push forward; Snap; Stubborn. So Juē points to all the living creatures characterized with those three features.

For examples, they can be Gong Zhonghui and his Prostate Dance Company, Ioku Ero Nikaido and his “Norma-Phobia”, as well as the indescribable (musician?) Gao Jiafeng who keeps upgrading in music talk show……

Furthermore, taking Juē as an attitude, we will be able to talk nonsense, blabbering “everything about performance”. With the absence of criticism in nowadays, we would like to trigger off the conversations on performance art by inviting local performance artists, insiders and people from other related industries to discuss “the present and the future of local performance art”, trying to exploit new perspectives and threads.

In response to the question raised in last year`s exhibition Why the Performance, we are looking forward to seeing you on July 8th after sunset, spending time together with three performances and the Crapping on Performing Art.

Performance & Artists Preview

With the absence of criticism in nowadays, we would like to trigger off the conversations on performance art through Crapping, inviting local performance artists, insiders and people from other related industries to discuss “the present and the future of local performance art” and trying to find new perspectives and threads.

Of course, the “performance art” we mentioned here refers to the contemporary visual art practice McaM has been dedicated to, ranging from experimental theatres and multi-media exhibitions, as well as performance-related installations, paintings, sculptures, video, sound, poems and dances.

Host: Zhang Yuan

Participants: Local artists, theatre professionals, and people in other related fields
