In loving memory of the late LIN Xue (1968-2020)

It is with great sadness to announce that LIN XUE, a renowned Hong Kong artist, passed away aged 52 in July 2020.

Born in Fujian, China in 1968, LIN Xue was a self-taught artist who explored in his work the cosmic balance and the wonders of nature. LIN had been a keen observer of the beauty and the intricacy of the natural world. As a way to stay connected with nature, he collected sharpened bamboo stalks and used them as paint brushes for his meticulous ink works. With his unique artistic language and techniques, LIN created a harmonious world of intricate structures entwined with both real and imagined sceneries where rocks, plants, animals and other creatures emerge from nature and the artist’s wild imagination.

LIN’s work has been exhibited both internationally and locally. His work was shown in several solo exhibitions, including “Song (Pine)” (Gallery EXIT, Hong Kong, 2018), “The Sixth Day” (Gallery EXIT, Hong Kong, 2011) and “Whispers in the Wind” (Gallery EXIT, Hong Kong, 2008). He participated in group shows such as “Land of the Lustrous” (UCCA Dune, Qinhuangdao, 2019), “Encyclopedic Palace” (55th Venice Biennale, Venice, 2013), “Phantoms of Asia: Contemporary Awakens the Past” (Asian Art Museum, San Francisco, 2012) and “Hong Kong Art Biennial Exhibition” (Hong Kong Museum of Art, Hong Kong, 1998).

LIN Xue was the first artist to exhibit at our gallery when we opened in 2008. It is our honour to be part of his lifelong creative endeavour. He will be greatly missed and always be remembered.
