The Purpose
This exciting new role will contribute to advancement of the international understanding of contemporary art – in particular Chinese contemporary art – as a source of insight into the impact of wider global change.
The Judith Neilson Post-Doctoral Research Fellowship in Contemporary Art supports the Judith Neilson Chair in Contemporary Art, which has been established to deepen the intellectual and methodological rigour of scholarly research into Chinese contemporary art and, by extension, contemporary art in the global context. A key research opportunity will be access to Judith Neilson’s significant collection of Chinese contemporary art, changing selections of which are on public display at the White Rabbit Gallery in Sydney http://www.whiterabbitcollection.org/.
Specific responsibilities include:
- Assist in the development, conduct and reporting of research
- Grasp research problems, select and undertake appropriate methods of analysis
- Conduct literature searches and reviews
- Contribute substantially to knowledge by successful publication of articles in peer-reviewed contexts, including journals and academic conferences
- Develop and maintain a digital presence of research projects and outcomes
- Provide assistance with the organisation of events/seminars related to projects
Skills and Requirements:
- PhD in a relevant discipline
- Ability to conduct research in contemporary art, demonstrated through a record of publications in high-ranking journals and conferences
- Ability to work independently, and as part of a team, including with the Faculty’s network of industry partners, to complete tasks within agreed timeframes
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Proven ability and commitment to attract research and arts funding and contribute to academic-industry collaborations
