Kafka lived in a poky room located in old Jewish area of Prague, while portraying a bewildering and magnificent construction project of the ancient empire– the Great Wall of China. With Kafka’s novel as the starting point of this new project, combined with contemporary large-scale projects (such as Region Ningbo -Zhoushan port reconstruction) research and interviews with its architects and workers, Paper Tiger Theater attempts to explore a core issue performatively: how about the relationship between the time-transgressive and transgenerational collective action of people, such as the construction of the Great Wall, and us? Are the contemporary human beings tireless transforming the world, while the individual remains deeply confused?
