Nathalie Djurberg & Hans Berg: Secret Garden

[Press Release]
21st Century Minsheng Art Museum (M21)
10 September – 23 October 2016

This will be the first exhibition by the Swedish artist duo Nathalie Djurberg and Hans Berg in China. The curator Sun Qidong prepares for viewers a subconscious wandering based on six groups (pieces) of works created since 2013. Mixing animation, sculpture and sound, Nathalie Djurberg and Hans Berg create psychologically charged scenarios dealing with human and animalistic desires. Since 2001, Djurberg has developed a distinctive style of filmmaking, using clay animation to dramatize the bases of natural instincts from jealousy, revenge and greed, to submission and lust. Her partner, the musician and composer Hans Berg, conjures up the atmospheric sound effects and scores the hypnotic music for Djurberg’s animations and installations. In 2004 the artists began working closely together as a duo. They have exhibited widely together in group shows, including the 53rd Venice Biennale in 2009, while recent solo shows include the Flickers of Day and Night at ARoS Aarhus Kunstmuseum, Aarhus and Denmark as well as Parade held in NeueGalerie New York and the Walker Art Center in Minneapolis.

The exhibition is organized by the 21st Century Minsheng Art Museum, Shanghai. Special thanks to Australian Centre for Contemporary Art (ACCA) Melbourne and the Melbourne Festival.
