Taoxichuan CHINA ARTS & SCIENCES project

The opening ceremony and the inaugural conference of the Taoxichuan CHINA ARTS & SCIENCES project took place on April 25-26th, 2019, in the Taoxichuan Ceramic Cultural Creative Industrial Park, Jingdezhen, Jiangxi province, China.

Taoxichuan CHINA ARTS & SCIENCES is a joint project of Jingdezhen Ceramic Culture Tourism Co., Ltd. and the Institute of Contemporary Art of Academy of Arts & Design, Tsinghua University.

Jingdezhen is of course the porcelain capital of the world. Seven years ago the city has begun a process of research and rebuilding its infrastructure. A visible result is the Taoxichuan Ceramic Avenue, which opened three years ago. Now the second phase of the development will be launched.

Taoxichuan CHINA ARTS & SCIENCES has a focus on international contemporary art with the goal of attracting artists from around the world to come to Jingdezhen for “research and development”. At the intellectual core of the project is a deliberation that connects Jingdezhen´s rich cultural history in “material transformation” with the research in new (ceramic) materials which is conducted at the University there. Ultimately “New materials” are the basis for today’s communication and are the ways we as humans connect with nature. Ultimately the material basis for our lives is the core concern for CHINA ARTS & SCIENCES.

CHINA ARTS & SCIENCES will be a center for artists worldwide to come to Jingdezhen to work, research and create awareness of the huge transformations our societies undergo as result of new materials introduced into our lives.
