Winners of the 2015 “Emerging Curators Program” at Shanghai’s Power Station of Art

The winners of the “Emerging Curators Program” at Shanghai’s Power Station of Art were announced on June 10, 2015. This program (launched in 2014; last year’s winners ) is designed to help emerging curators gain experience in preparing and realizing exhibitions, with substantial financial and promotional support from the Power Station of Art in Shanghai, China’s first state-funded museum of contemporary art. Each of the winning teams will receive 330 000 RMB [approx. 53100 USD] to execute their curatorial proposals.

The winning curatorial proposals are as follows (in order of the number of winning votes):

1. Yao Mengxi and Zhang Hanlu [姚梦溪、张涵露], “Zhanlan de Emeng (II): Shuangxiang de Juchang” [《展览的噩梦(下):双向剧场》] (our translation: “The Nightmare of Exhibitions (II): a Two-Way Stage”)

2. Chen Chenchen and Lin Shuchuan [陈陈陈、林书传], “Ya-Ziyou” [《亚自由》] (our translation: “Sub-Freedom”)

3. Zhang Wei and Yuan Wenshan [张未、袁文珊], “Shijian-bing: Kongzhi Shijian de dou bei Shijian Kongzhi” [《时间病:控制时间的都被时间控制》] (our translation: “Chronopathy: Controlling Time Always Means Being Controlled by Time”)

The jury for this year’s “Emerging Curators Program” consists of a part of the Academic Committee of the Power Station of Art in Shanghai (Li Xianting, Yong Ho Chang, Chris Dercon, Ding Yi, Hou Hanru, Feng Yuan, Li Xu, Gao Shiming, Gong Yan) as well as three specially invited members of the jury (Fei Dawei, Yuan Qingyue, Xiang Liping). This year, a total of 41 curatorial proposals were received, with 6 of them entering the first round of deliberations. On June 10, the jury interviewed with the six shortlisted groups of curators and voted the final three winning curatorial teams.

The winning teams will receive exhibition funding, academic and promotional support from the PSA. The curatorial proposals will be realized in December 2015 at the Power Station of Art in Shanghai.
