Solo shows by Cui Xiuwen and Wu Yuren open at Klein Sun

Yesterday evening, two new solo exhibitions opened at Klein Sun Gallery in New York’s Chelsea district. “Awakening of the Flesh” is the second solo exhibition at the gallery by Cui Xiuwen, and assembles new abstract paintings. In the smaller rear rooms of the gallery and in the stairwell, “On Parole” displays pieces from Wu Yuren’s A Sentence, Heritage (both of which are overt in referencing Wu’s stance against the eviction of artists from Beijing’s 798 district in 2010 and his ensuing imprisonment), and the more opaque Sink and The Truth is Conflict series.
