Opening around Art Basel in Hong Kong in May, Lehmann Maupin is pleased to present Case Studies, the first solo show in Hong Kong by Hernan Bas (b. 1978, Miami, Florida). In his new series of paintings, Here’s the Story, Bas combines the supernatural and his own life experiences. He has written personal histories for the adolescent males featured in his paintings that delve into each one’s individual psychosis. Bas’s references are far-reaching, often weaving together stories of adolescent adventures and the paranormal, with classical poetry, religious stories, mythology and literature. His varied influences also include classic horror films, comics, television, art history, the occult and fairy tales.
