In the exhibition, we will display a selection of Cheng Ran`s representative video works that spans a time period from 2010 to 2016, central among them is a film that is almost impossible to watch in its entirety: the 8-hour long epic In Course of the Miraculous (2015).
To ensure the best screening effect, we will transform the gallery space into a tentative cinema where viewers can sit and enjoy the film with drinks and snacks. A special opening event, entitled Beer & Popcorn, will be held on February 17 from 5:00–8:30 pm.
The video works Cheng Ran (b. 1981) creates as a Chinese artist are products of complex and globalized conditions. In his signature practice of intersecting images with sound, he oftentimes appropriates visual and aural components from classical art and literature to create videos revealing universal meanings.
