Moving Images

Mobile M+: Moving Images is M+’s first moving image focused project and a part of the museum’s ongoing pre-opening public programme series Mobile M+.

This multi-site project features a thematic screening programme and a two-part exhibition, which includes a selection of works from the museum’s growing moving image collection. Inspired by the multiple connotations of the word ‘moving’ and the rise of diasporic cinema internationally, Mobile M+: Moving Images takes Hong Kong’s acclaimed ‘migratory cinema’ from the 80s and 90s, in particular Clara Law’s 1996 film Floating Life, as a starting point to consider how conditions of contemporary migration and displacement are expressed, imagined and represented through mediated images.

The exhibition and screenings address poignant topics that are relevant to both Hong Kong and global realities, while aiming to reflect on the increasingly complicated concepts of ‘home’. With participations from both Hong Kong and international artists and filmmakers, Mobile M+: Moving Images will present a diverse range of works in various formats and mediums, from feature films and documentaries to artist films/videos, installations, and photography and beyond to visualise the transitional, and at times transformative, experiences of today’s mobile societies.

Mobile M+: Moving Images is accompanied by a series of learning programmes, including talks by artists and filmmakers, workshops and special guided tours, expanding and providing context on the related subject matters and issues within the project.
