Gallery 55 is proud to present “MUCHTOOMUCH” – a multimedia group show from the 7th of November 2018 through the 27th of January 2019.


Li Zhuwei was born in China in 1987. Graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts, Southwest University in China in 2011 with a Bachelor’s Degree, Li began his Master’s Degree study at Luca Caccioni Studio, Visual Arts Department, Bologna Academy of Fine Arts in 2016. Currently, Li lives and works in Bologna, Italy.

There is no narrative, no intoxication, no sorrow in Li’s creation. His works, stripped of its ornate appearance and heavy meaning, only emphasize the relationship between the artist’s own behavior and materials. Through close physical contact, the consumption of time and life, the artificial traces on materials become the subject of the work.

Song Xi was born in China in1983. He graduated with a B.A. from Dalian Light Industry Institute in 2006. Currently he lives and works in Shanghai, China.

The works of Song Xi refer to the communication of body and ideas, exploring the boundary of life form on the political structure in the depoliticization of body and consciousness. To question the rules and concepts of standardization established by people in society, he experiments in thinking, doubting and acting in the state of nomadism.

Xu Yihua was born in China in 1987. He received a B.A. from China Academy of Art in Hangzhou in 2010; and a M.A from Milan National Academy of Fine Arts in ITALY in 2015. Currently, he lives and works in Hangzhou, China.

Xu’s creation is based on exploring the mysterious connection between the original single language and vision, hearing and touching, researching the complex sound image perception of “A” (pronunciation) sequence as the creative subject, using the most direct similar graffiti art as an expression, with black lines around, to represent complex “A” in the general cognitive flat “death”, as used to exist in a certain time and space and this moment in the plane of space-time temporarily, thus forming a new form of cognition. The sequence of “A” studied has a great relationship with vibration. However, regular vibration is the basic embodiment of life, and it is also a rather mysterious field.

Ye Qing was born in China in 1977. He graduated from China Academy of Arts in Hangzhou in 1999. Currently, he lives and works in Hangzhou, China.

The subjects of Ye Qing’s paintings are taken from the most ordinary scenes of his life. He uses the most standard realistic techniques to present them on the canvas. Ye Qing’s method of painting seems to conform to all the norms, a bit like the standard exam work. There is no individual language, no cultural inheritance, no particularity, no extremes, no aesthetic value or visual nutrition. It is even difficult to find the right adjectives to describe his picture. This is the artistic attitude of Ye Qing: norms, personality free (asexual), emphasis on gaze rather than appreciation, description rather than expression.

Yin Changzhi was born in China in 1984. He received a B.A. from Anhui Normal University in China in 2005; and a M.F.A from China Academy of Art In Hangzhou in 2009. Currently, he lives and works in Wuhu, China.

Yin Changzhi creates around the painting frame, plane and space structure, breaking through the history of painting practice. He creates artworks between painting, sculpture and installation. He tries to make up the new form and functional complement of the original painting plane system by using cloth and free combination of frame to manufacture and decompose into several bevels. The boarder of a painting would be pulled in different warp / weft relations, widen or folded, producing more joints, tendons and skin. The process of building is a customization of the action as well as viewing. In this sense, the artist attempts to loosen the rigid relationship between the art work and the audience with a temporary action by reediting the conventional properties of painting. Eventually, the translucent color layer and frame attaching to the canvas become the inside and the reflection. They are continually corrected in the process of reviewing. Once the border is open again, its material components construct a new base and structure after reassembling. The flexible wedges finally render an unfamiliar spatial hierarchy of painting and texture perception.

Zhang Yehong was born in China in 1993. He received a B.A. from China Academy of Art in Hangzhou in 2009. Currently, he lives and works in Hangzhou, China.

The title of Zhang Yehong’s work, “End of the World”, comes from an anonymous English website (www.worlds-end-association.com) searched by the artist. Differing from the romantic imagination of most people, it’s an uneventful British local association (West Sussex,aka Worlds End). It inadvertently, however, suggests and inspires a possible form of association about the strange landscape of “the end of the world,” a generative mechanism that lingers between landscape, anthropology and cultural imagination. In the jungle of pictures, words and objects, Zhang recreated the image of an association through fiction.

Zhao Bang was born in China in 1989. He was enrolled at Central Academy of Art in Beijing in 2009 and dropped out during the 3rd year. Currently, he lives and works in Beijing, China.

In Zhao Bang’s single channel video work “Tomb”, photo images of street view from Google Maps constantly pop up in the maze. This panoramic shooting technique is sometimes “deformed” due to technical problems. Zhao treats those images as a kind of interesting psychic scene. In this work, the artist tries to play a ghost hunter, roaming the world of the global Internet through Google Maps and intercepting the images. The track in the background comes from a blogger named ASMR on Youtube, who keeps whispering in the ear about the supernatural events she has encountered since her childhood.
