Sherrie Levine Solo Exhibition

New sculptures from a series of casted bronze objects will be presented. With an intention to provoke thoughts on how the market turns spiritually meaningful artworks into luxury commodities, it quite reflects the current situation of a market dominated scene of our town.

Ms Levine is a central figure of the 1980s Postmodernism Movement in America. She emerged in 1981 showing series of photographs titled “after Walker Evans” – photographed reproductions of Depression-era photographs by Walker Evans and laying the foundations for “rephotography”. Alongside her body of appropriation art, these works have become central examples in the theorisation of postmodernism, and were recognised through the prevention of a retrospective at the Whitney Museum of American Art in 2011.
