Nonsense 2013 is composed of five paintings. “Writing” and “repeating” have always been the important branches of the language of Wang Jun’s works. From the pure abstract painting started from 2002, to the book-painting performance Reading, a leaning towards lines in writing and the paradox of words and images have repeatedly appeared in his works. The artist regards the exhibited works of this time a kind of rumination of “writing”. Some images come from the covers of the artist’s manuscripts; some come from the nonsense excerpted from his notebooks; some come from the poems he copied.
In the series White is White, Wang Jun first used material objects to imitate and reproduce a work by Malevich. Wang Jun first used material objects to imitate and reproduce a work by Malevich. Then he copied another piece of Malevich’s work by using the simplest black and white paints. Meanwhile, he implanted some of Malevich’s images into his own card series. The different ways of processing put Malevich’s images into three different time and space. The gap of produced by the same object in different systems is now being revealed.
