With nearly 20 years of history, Eslite Gallery was the first in Taiwan to dedicate to the promotion of Chinese contemporary art. It remains a forerunner in the arena to this day.
Currently Eslite Gallery represents over 20 Chinese contemporary artists based in Taiwan, mainland China, France, Germany, the US and other countries in the world. Its artists include masters like CAI Guo-Qiang, XU Bing, LIU Xiaodong, and in the meanwhile it also nurtures emerging talents such as Michael LIN, WONG Hoy Cheong, Kuang-Yu TSUI, as well as works closely with renowned artists in the ranks of David DIAO and XIANG Jing through exhibitions and sponsorships.
Not limited to artists from both sides of the Taiwan Strait, Eslite Gallery’s recent exhibitions have focused on artists from other countries in Asia. Perhaps the most notable one would be the 2008 Coffee, Cigarettes & Pad Thai: Contemporary Art in Southeast Asia exhibition in collaboration with Dr. Eugene TAN, co-curator of 2006 Singapore Biennale. The exhibition featured exciting works by 17 artists from six Southeast Asian countries, and marked the first show of contemporary Southeast Asian art in such scale in Taiwan.
