Shoshana Wayne Gallery was founded in 1986 in Santa Monica, California, with a strong commitment to exhibiting the work of women artists. The gallery was one of the first in Los Angeles to exhibit the work of Nicole Eisenman, Nan Goldin, Yoko Ono, Michal Rovner, Arlene Shechet, and Kiki Smith, giving rise to their international careers.
Since opening, Shoshana Wayne Gallery has presented a number ofimportant historic exhibitions such as, Lost and Found in California: Four Decades of Assemblage Art (1988); West Coast Duchamp (1989); Rachel Lachowicz’s performance Red not Blue (1992); Viennese Actionism (1993); Young British Artists Group Show (1995) including Chris Ofili, Michael Landy, Sarah Lucas, and Peter Doig; and Wood Cuts: 1977-1997 by Anselm Kiefer (1998).
Shoshana Wayne Gallery has continued to present exhibitions that have significantly expanded the visibility of artists to an international audience including: Michal Rovner, Nofim (2014); Izhar Patkin, The Dead are Here (2012); and Zadok Ben-David, Blackfield (2009), among others.
Today the gallery is committed to showing both established and emerging artists from the United States, Europe, and Asia with a focus on, but not limited to, conceptual art, feminist art, and the handmade. Shoshana Wayne Gallery artists are included in many international biennials and museum exhibitions, and are collected in depth by public and private institutions.
