自卓纳画廊宣布其为“约瑟夫和安妮·阿尔伯斯基金会”的代表之后，画廊将于2016年11月3日到12月17日首次举办约瑟夫·阿尔伯斯的展览。 “约瑟夫·阿尔伯斯：灰阶、灰度值、灰色的梯状物”将在画廊西二十大街237号的空间内呈现艺术家的精选作品，探讨阿尔伯斯在整个艺术生涯之中对于黑、白、灰三色的运用。

约瑟夫·阿尔伯斯不仅是一名重要的设计师和教育者，同时被认为是二十世纪其中一位最具影响力的抽象画家，这归因于他在空间关系与色彩理论方面所采用的严格的实验方法。展览的标题源自《色彩构成》（1963）中的一篇文章，该书籍是阿尔伯斯关于色彩研究的重要论述以及为艺术家与教师撰写的基础手册。尤其是关系到色彩的交互作用——其中一种色彩的视知觉是受到与其相邻的其它颜色的影响，阿尔伯斯写到，“为此，我们研究渐变，通过制造所谓的灰阶，灰度值，灰色的梯状物。这些都证明了一种在白与黑之间、明与暗之间的逐步递增或递减。”
