HDM Gallery is pleased to present the exhibition “New Landscapes”, featuring 5 artists: Xue Feng, Yuan Yuan, Yang Yongliang, Zhao Xuebing and Zhu Xinyu, for interpreting natural and cultural landscapes in a new way. There will be 9 works exhibited in the show including oil painting and photographs.

Through the process of trial, Xue Feng deconstructs the landscapes of Chinese Traditional Paintings, making them abstractive, leaving only the simplest strokes on the canvas. His works are infectious, reflecting his state of mind during each creative process.
The work of Yuan Yuan avoid portraits, yet traces of human life are everywhere in this paintings. Two works exhibited in the show combine imagination and reality through texturized oil paints; in presenting every event of a scene, Yuan leads the viewer to discover the traces of time.
Conflict and similarity are prevalent in all Yang Yongliang’s works. The artist implements digital technology to merge the construction of urban cities with Chinese traditional landscapes paintings. His works explore how modern and traditional civilizations share the same self-derived limitations. In the series “Silent Valley” an apparently harmonious scene obscures two threats. All of Yang Yongliang’s efforts are intended to awaken the minds of current society
The inspiration of “Central Park” series comes from Zhao Xuebing’s experiences living in Paris and New York. He uses delicate strokes to paint the scenes of miscellaneous branches and trees in the heart of Central Park as he remembers them. The large expanses of cool color depicts a peaceful atmosphere in the picture, yet the light and shadow depict a dream-state, reflecting the chaotic thoughts of the artist.
Influenced by his own education and personal experience, Zhu Xinyu, who hails from Liaoning province with its deserted factories and large expanses of empty terrains, is skilled in painting deserted landscapes. Intensive colors and subtle tones recreate the bitter and cold atmosphere, yet call the charm of French painter Gustave Courbet’s works.
