SCôP seeks an Associate Curator who will be required to be a specialist in photography. S/he will be responsible for all curatorial duties, including research, study, and works in the collection; for proposing future exhibitions.
Primary responsibilities and duties:
– Lead scholarly research on and interpretation of objects under her/his curatorial responsibility
– Participate in departmental initiatives
– Plan, research, and execute exhibitions in cooperation with colleagues across SCôP
– Contribute catalogue essays and entries as well as other printed and online texts
– Answer correspondence relating to exhibitions and events at SCôP; assist the public and visiting photographers, scholars and professionals
– Foster and maintain excellent working relationships with donors, patrons, collectors, dealers, colleagues from other international institutions, and the scholarly community
– Assist with departmental fundraising as appropriate
– Contribute to SCôP’s public and educational programs (Learning, Volunteers, Digital Media, etc.)
– Assist with programs for friends groups and special events
– Other related duties
Requirements and qualifications
Experience and skills:
– Minimum three years of experience in an arts organization
– Demonstrated evidence of original research
– Proven experience initiating exhibitions
– Demonstrated commitment to international photographic practice
– Excellent interpersonal and communications skills
– Ability to create and maintain precise records
Knowledge and education:
– Proven experience and/or study in the field of photography or the history of art
– Excellent written and spoken Chinese and English
–Proficiency in computer skills, including layout and editing software
